Swinger Terms and Glossary: A sexy guide to swinger definitions and acronyms

Swinger Terms and glossary MFM picture

When you are first getting started in the swinger lifestyle, there are so many new things to try and explore. One of the confusing things that we found about the swinger life was all the different swinger terms. We made this swinger glossary to help explain each swinger term and swinger acronym.

We have tried to make this swinger glossary all inclusive but there are so many different terms out there that this may be impossible. The good news is that the swinger community is probably the friendliest community that you will ever find. If you do not know something just ask and people will help out.

The swinger lifestyle is all about exploring and trying out new things. These different swinger terms help to describe the experiences that are available. If you know of any terms that we missed or should add, just leave them in the comments section below and we will add them in.

Aftercare

swinger terms aftercare

A term most often used in connection to BDSM. Often after a BDSM session, there is a period of time where the participants will receive physical comfort and emotional support. “Aftercare is seen by many as an essential part of a bondage session.”

As a swinger acronym, this stands for “Big Beautiful Woman”. Often used in profiles by larger women to describe themselves. This usually means that the woman is more than a few pounds overweight.

This type of behavior is often seen at swinger resorts/clubs in playrooms referred to as “dungeons”. An example of a resort dungeon can be found at Secrets Hideaway in Orlando, Florida.

Our first BDSM experience was at a resort dungeon.”

Bednotchers

This swinger term refers to a swinger couple that seeks to have sex with mostly or exclusively new couples. A bednotcher would not form a long-term sexual swinger relationship with another couple. Sometimes thought to be derogatory but this term does describe a lot of swinger couples.

Often bi-comfortable people will limit their bi-sexual behavior such as oral sex only, in a couples environment only, or even limited to meaning that they are only comfortable with bisexual behavior in the same bed.

If you were interested in a bi-sexual relationship with a bi-comfortable person, you would want to do more communication about what they are actually into.

Bi-Curious

Swinger Terms bi-curious

With a swinger couple, many women commonly use the term bi-curious even after numerous bisexual experiences. Often they should be using related terms like bi-receptive, bi-comfortable, and bi-tolerant instead of bi-curious.

It is very common for women to describe themselves this way but men use the term as well.

“My wife has never had sex with a woman but she fantasizes about it sometimes. She is definitely bi-curious.”

Lifestyle

Reverse Cowgirl

A term referring to a sexual position with the girl on top and facing away from the man.

“When we do an MFM threesome, my wife does the reverse cowgirl on me while performing oral sex on the other man.”

Safe Word

This is an important word in the swinger glossary. It has a couple of applications in the swinger lifestyle. This is a word chosen by participants prior to play activity which means to immediately stop the activity.

Commonly used in the BDSM world to stop play when one participant becomes uncomfortable. The safe word is used to provide safety in a role-play situation where one may not realize that the other is uncomfortable.

Also, used by couples in the swinger lifestyle to let their partner know that they do not wish to pursue a sexual activity with another couple/person without coming out and saying it.

Separate Rooms

A swinger term that is very similar to separate play. This term refers to a couple that is engaged in play with another couple but not in the same room. So all separate room play is separate play but not all separate play is separate room play.

“We met a real nice couple at the resort pool and decided to do separate rooms for the first time. I went back to their room with his wife and he went back to our room with my wife.”

Soft Swap

This is a major swinger glossary term. It refers to a swinger partner swap that does not involve penetrative sex (full swap). This is often a restriction that involves newer swinger couples though some couples stay as soft swap couples.

A soft swap will often include oral sex, touching, and girl-on-girl play but does not involve actual sex. Couples should spell out the limitations of the soft swap with the other couple before beginning to play.

“When we first started swinging, we were soft swap only. I loved watching my wife blow someone else but was not sure that I would be ok with watching someone else have sex with her.”

Squirting

This term refers to female ejaculation of a noticeable amount of liquid. There is some controversy as to whether this is just urine that is released during orgasm or something more.

The best scientific definition that I could find says: “This type of orgasm includes a rapid ejection of urine from the bladder. Squirting sometimes also involves secretions from the skene’s gland. The skene’s glands are sometimes called the female prostate because they function similarly to the male prostate.”(source).

This term refers to a person that engages in sexual activity outside of a normal one-partner sexual relationship. This is another major entry in the swinger glossary. The term unicorn refers to a single female that is willing to play with other swingers. This is truly a rare creature. Many swinger couples that want to add a single female for an FMF threesome refer to wanting a unicorn.

“My wife and I really want to have a threesome with another woman but it is so hard to find a genuine unicorn.”

Vanilla

This is a swinger term that refers to anything that is not swinger lifestyle. This can refer to persons, activities, or even events.

“After all of our vacations to the swinger resorts, I think we would be bored going on a vanilla vacation.”

As a swinger term voyeurism refers to gaining pleasure from the consensual watching of others engaged in sexual activity. Often, swinger playrooms are set up with voyeurism in mind with opportunities to watch others.

“Whenever my wife and I go to the playrooms, we spend some time satisfying our voyeurism urges. We get really excited watching others.”

420

Not really a swinger term but is found in a lot of swinger profiles. This is used as a reference to marijuana use. The main use that you see in profiles is used as “420 friendly” meaning that they use or accept the use of marijuana.

“My wife and I avoid couples that are listed as 420 friendly. We don’t care if someone smokes marijuana but we really hate the smell.”
